I am not feeling Halloween this year. If it were up to me, which sadly it’s not, we’d skip it all together. I am already thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas and looking forward to both. Heck, for the first time in oh forever, I’m even looking forward to New Years. However, I’d seriously skip Halloween this year if I could.
Anyway, today is Monday and sometimes Monday’s just need random posts. I have to much stuff in my head and none of it is really long post worthy.
-I am not buying Harrison a costume this year. It will be freezing, he is just starting to get sick as I type this and I am not letting him walk around and get candy that I won’t let him eat. Logan will take the girls trick or treating, while Harrison and I answer the door. The chicks have said they want to be a surgeon and a witch again, so yay, I’m not buying a single costume this year. I was prepared to buy Morgan a new costume, but she really does want to be a surgeon again. Bailey is easy, she’s wanted to be a witch for Halloween every year since she was old enough to ask.
-I had the chance to buy pumpkins this weekend and didn’t take it. I did however buy a butt load of candy. I may be a Grinch, but I’m not stupid.
-Last year it was pleasantly warm on Halloween. We had a blast walking the kids around. The first year we lived here though? It was like 20 degrees. I think we held the girls as we walked them to five houses and then we went home. I have been told that this is the norm. Last year was a fluke.
-I considered offering the girls the entire huge bag of candy that I bought at Costco if they’d forgo Halloween. But it seems cruel. At five and nearly eight, they won’t care if they freeze for an hour.
-I hit mark all as read in my reader. I had absolutely no time this weekend (truly, I am not even remembering if I opened the laptop at all) and even though I said I’d read everything last week, I couldn’t get to it all. I needed to start fresh today. There was just no other way I was going to get caught up, since no one seems to be willing to stop writing while I finish reading. Please to be forgiving.
-My husband went away for the second weekend in a row. It is very different to be a single parent, even for three days. Not bad per se, just different. Tiring. Kristen, if I lived near you, I’d come keep your kids for a day. Seriously. Everyone deserves a break.
-I don’t understand why men don’t sleep on weekend get aways. Does anyone understand this? Last weekend Logan went with some buddies and his brother to Vegas. I didn’t expect him to sleep there. He came home a HUGE grouch who needed two days to recover. It’s Vegas, I get it. This weekend he went to a family event in Los Angeles. We just couldn’t swing all of us going. He, yet again, came home a HUGE sleep deprived grouch. I don’t get it.
That’s pretty much all I’ve got. How was your weekend?

I’m with you on halloween this year. I still haven’t bought the costumes yet. Haley keeps changing her mind. I wish she would be a witch every year or at least let me just throw a sheet over her head ala ET and call it a day.

@melissa, The witch every year thing is awesome. I know I got lucky with her.
In middle school we used to do that, the sheet thing. We’d hit the same neighborhood twice.
There’s nothing wrong with skipping Halloween. I’m going nuts for Halloween with a big party for a bunch of 1-year-olds, which as we all know has nothing to do with the kids and everything to do with me. With 5 days to go, I can already guarantee you that I won’t be doing this next year. I, of course, have left everything for the last minute and have done nothing to date. Ho hum. I think you’re brilliant.

@becky, I have stayed okay so far…but it’s only Tuesday. I did hit mark all as read on Sunday when I had over 250 in there.
I’m always the Grinch who Ignored Halloween. It’s our night to hide out in the bedroom and order pizza. One of my fav nights of the year.

I’ve neglected my reader this weekend. It is now up to 200. I’ll catch up eventually. I usually go through and mark read what I don’t need to read and read the people whom I LOVE and can’t miss! (you’re on that list!)
I’ll be spending Halloween at a friends house with her husband and 3 boys. They’re doing up a haunted house in their garage, so it should be fun to see the kids scared.

i like to sleep when i leave town, too. that’s the beauty of going away without kids & other various responsibilities.

@mommymae, It must be a mommy thing. When Liz and I went to Vegas we slept a ton. It was so lovely. My husband goes to Vegas with friends and sleeps a total of two hours. Weirdos.
I’ve been clearing out my reader and its at 350. I let it go way to long and I can’t catch up.
Glad you survived the weekend.

I cleared my reader out too this weekend. I was so hopelessly behind I thought I needed to start fresh. My birthday is right after Halloween so when I was growing up it was always Halloween birthday parties. I fell in love w/Halloween as a result. This year I’m having a hard time getting into it too. Maybe cuz my house has been sick and I’m not feeling at all festive. Of course, there’s still a few days left. Maybe I’ll get inspired?

@Twenty Four At Heart, I loved Halloween when I was a kid. I always wanted a Halloween birthday too. ha.
Sick and festive just don’t tend to go together. Hope you start feeling better soon.
I have completely forgone Halloween for years (for myself, obviously childless). This year though, with the whole working in a bar thing (thanks for the Coyote Ugly thing, by the way. Pffft. I do not shake my ass on the bar, for the record), I have no choice but to get into it.
Our staff party was last night and its a huge event…BBQ and football in the afternoon, pre-drink at someone’s house, party at our bar and after party at another one. So Halloween I shall.
But for the record, CHRISTMAS FTW!
