Issa, I sit back and quietly read your posts and I am continually impressed with the way you think, parent and live your life ...

You are giving your children their wings. I love that.

You stop your world and watch your child dance. You see and appreciate her talent. She feels that. They all feel that.

You are savoring the moments that you will never get back. I don't know that competitions could enhance what you already have.

I'm old enough to be your mother yet I still learn from you. You are leading with your heart. It is a good way to parent ...

I was in ballet when I was 6, I was top of the class with one other girl my age. I loved it. Even at that age I realized what a hardship it was on a poor family with 5 kids and talked my mom into letting me STOP going to ballet. Okay, I was over-responsible even at 6 but really, I liked being at home, I liked playing with my siblings. I liked dancing but loved my family.

As an adult I think a lot of competitive activities for children can teach them a really poor lesson, how to not be a child, how to be a competitor.

Good for you, unless she really wants to compete, let her be happy with her childhood, her siblings and you. And even if she does want to get into competitive dance, another lesson that is good to learn as a child - you can't always get what you want.

I found you through Christy from a Lil" Welsh Rarebit. I saw the title of your post and I was intrigued. I have a love/hate relationship with that show. You're right - it's a train wreck that I can't quite tear myself away from. :)
it sounds like you're doing what's best for your family and when you're following your heart, gut...whatever you want to call it...it's the right thing to do. And if it changes, you'll know.

Ah Issa this is a big soap box of mine. A kid doesn't have to take lessons never mind be competitive at such a young age. If she loves to dance - she'll dance in the basement, in the garden, at the mall.
When she gets to high school and/or can get her self to lessons - she'll take them. Even better - she can get a job to pay for them.
It will not be too late.
You are making the best decision for your whole family - so it's the right one. Current culture makes us feel less than if we don't have our kids ski-ing, playing an instrument, dancing and speaking three languages by age 10. I believe all it does is add stress.
All your girl needs is your enthusiasm and encouragement - wherever she dances.

I think we all worry about regretting choices we may / may not make with our kids. But the reality is that we deal with the hand we're dealt ... and with 3 kids there are hard decisions to be made that will affect the other two.

And since $$ doesn't grow on trees and there AREN'T more than 24 hours in a day, it can't be expected that our kids will get to do everything they want to do. Unfortunately. Or not ...

My brothers both wrestled ... and I grew up being schlepped to their baseball games every weekend until they were in high school, and then to every single wrestling match at night and on weekends throughout MY college career (when I was home). I so relate!

Anyway, point being is that I understand. And as a mom who does do a lot of schlepping around (with swim lessons starting tonight for Grady), I'm SO over it already.

And if she DOES want to get involved with it when she gets into high school - a part time job can pay for it. :)

Just Dance 2 song list will include dozens of wonderful songs to choose from including hits from Outkast and Rihanna. The original music rhythm game has sold over 4 million copies! The sequel, ‘Just Dance 2’, comes back with a brand new tracklist of more than 40 popular songs. Each track has its own choreography. The Just Dance 2 Song list contains a wide range of music including classics to contemporary. Another cool feature is new music styles such as Bollywood or Reggaeton.

Agree! When I was still studying, I really hate mornings. You have to wake up early and go to school. :)

Just keep swimming is my mantra as well. It was what kept me going when I was ill and quarantined a couple of years ago!

Small changes work well, want to have chicken for dinner, buy a cooked rotisserrie one. I am not a big eater of processed food but I am sure there are pre-made food things you could buy that will make your life simpler.

A count-down calendar on your desktop until tax season is done!

Take care.

Mornings always kicks my ass. I wake up every morning to find myself dumped with loads of works. So I completely understand how you are feeling right now. But I'm sure you will make it to the end with each work because you have a great mantra inspiring you.
Best wishes.
